How To Enter
Catch a fish before a witness, release it, or take it to one of the eighteen
official tournament weighing stations and fill in the required official form.
Release the required number of fish and you will receive a sportsmanship
citation, or, catch a fish that meets or exceeds minimum CITATION weight or
length requirements and you will receive an outstanding angling citation.
The largest of 37 species of fish entered in each of eleven different
divisions will receive a winner's plaque or trophy. Many plaques and trophies
will be awarded for men, women, and juniors. Many other special awards will be
presented.
Win a Gamefish Release Award
The Tournament stresses the release of fish, and a high percentage of all
fish entered are released. Free your gamefish and enjoy your sport another day.
Gamefish Release Citations are awarded for the release of fish. Several
major trophies are also awarded for outstanding release records over the entire
tournament.
ONLY ONE RELEASE OF THE FOLLOWING SPECIES IS REQUIRED FOR A SPORTSMANSHIP

ONLY FOUR RELEASES ARE REQUIRED FOR ANY OTHER TOURNAMENT SPECIES.
Tournament Fishing Rules
- All catches must be made on regulation tackle.
- Entries must be designated as either an "angler unassisted" or
"angler assisted" entry.
- With respect to "angler unassisted" entries, the angler must hook
and fight the fish without any help and no other person may touch the rod,
reel, or line or relieve the angler in any fashion until the fish is gaffed or
otherwise landed or released.
- With respect to "angler assisted" entries, the angler must fight
the fish without any help and no other person may touch the rod, reel, or line
or relieve the angler in any fashion until the fish is gaffed or otherwise
landed or released. However, one and only one person other than the angler may
perform a drop back or set a hook or do both, as long as immediate possession
and control of the rod, reel, and line is transferred to the angler upon
hook-up. "Angler assisted" entries will not be accepted in any of the
Artificial Casting Divisions.
- Shooting, harpooning, or handling a fish shall disqualify it for entry.
Exception: Sharks may be shot while the leader is being handled by a
crew member.
- A fish, mutilated between time of hooking and handling, is not eligible for
entry.
- If any equipment failure offers an advantage to the angler, the fish will
be disqualified.
- All fish entered in the Tournament must have a properly completed official
entry form. Failure to complete and official entry form properly and/or
completely will disqualify the entry. Angler and witness must sign their own
names and the witness must have been present and seen the actual catch and/or
release.
- To qualify as a release, the leader and not just the double line must be
touched.
- All charterboats and guides for hire must be registered with the Tournament
to be eligible to participate.
